Codes and Conventions of Radio Trailers

  • They use background music (sound bed)- relevant to topic


  • Use of a ranging accents and foreign languages


  • Scheduling at the end of the advert (voiceover)- time, day, channel


  • Clips from documentary may be used


  • Sound effects e.g sounds of animals i.e barking, a meow or the noise of rain to represent the weather underneath what the voiceover is talking about.

  •  
  • Clips from the programme may be used and are normally the most captivating and exciting, to entice the audience


  • Content of the trailer is relevant to the main themes of the documentary


  • Clear and well spoken voiceover  - the tone of voice suits the content, informal/formal to suit the target audience.


  • Informal language


  • Target audience is addressed by the voice over asking questions - involving the listeners - direct address by using 'you' 


  • Voiceover can be intercut throughout


  • Around 30-40 seconds 


  • May use a slogan
