Brainstorm of Content for Documentary

Once we had decided on a topic for our documentary, the target audience and scheduling of the programme, we needed to brainstorm the possible content of our documentary as this will be the content for the whole documentary, not just the first 5 minutes we are producing; below is what we came up with...
It includes the possible interviews we could conduct for the topic, archive material and music we could use, possible cutaways, style of voiceover etc...

Video Feedback

We additionally filmed two people from our target audience answering our questionnaire:

Questionnaire Results and Conclusion

From this chart you can see that 17% of males and 83% of females filled in our questionnaires.

From this bar chart it shows that the majority of the people that filled in our questionnaire where between the age of 10-20yrs.

As you can see from this pie chart, most people go to sleep around11.00pm on a weeknight.

From the chart, 9 people told us that they get around 8 hours sleep whereas only one person said they got 10 hours sleep.

We asked our audience if they remember their dreams, the majority of people said they do whereas some people said sometimes and a few said no.

We also asked them if they have ever had the same dream more than once.

For this question we asked if they found it easy to fall asleep, a large number of people said they did, a few people said that they didnt and a very small amount said that they did sometimes.

From the line graph we can see that very few people keep themselves active when they cannot get to sleep such as working but many people seem to do nothing to help them get to sleep.

We asked what people feel like when they have not had enough sleep, most of the people said that they feel moody and tired.

This bar chart shows that the majority of people said they do not listen to music when they are falling asleep.

This pie chart shows us that the most popular genre of music was chart music, followed by RnB leaving old rock the least popular.

From the results we can see that a comfy bed is the best therapy for a good nights sleep.

Pink was the top favourite colour out of a group of 30 people and turquoise was the least favourite.

We also asked if you ever have nightmares, 14 people said yes, 12 people said no and 4 people said they did sometimes.

From this bar chart we see that the majority of the people filling in our questionnaires said they did not sleep with the light on, a few people said no and very few people said that they did sometimes.

Audience Research Questionnaire

We conducted research into our target audience and so we constructed a questionnaire which provided us information about the audience's knowledge of our subject, their likes and dislikes in order to help us on our decisions for the form and content of our programme...
  1. Are you male or female?
  2. Age?
  3. What time do you usually go to sleep on a weeknight?
  4. How many hours of sleep do you usually get?
  5. Do you remember your dreams?
  6. Have you ever had the same dream more than once?
    Can you explain that dream...
  7. Do you find it easy to fall asleep?
  8. What do you do when you can't get to sleep?
  9. What do you feel like when you havn't had enough sleep?
  10. Do you listen to music while your going to sleep?
  11. What type of music do you like anyways?
  12. What is the best thing about sleep?
  13. What is your favourite colour?
  14. Do you ever have nightmares?
    Can you explain that nightmare...

Genre Analysis: TV Scheduling - Three Concepts

  • Hammocking: The strategic placement of a programme between two other programmes; positioning a news series betwen two well establishing shows that appeal to the same target audience often gives the right viewers an opportunity to sample the new series.

  • Pre-echo: A programme placed on a schedual to come before a popluar programme. For example in the hope that people will tune into the popular programme a couple of minutes before it starts and catch abit of the previous programme and want to watch the whole episode next time it is on.

  • Inheritance: A new programme placed after a successful programme in the hope of inheriting some of its audience, (vital for new shows).
